CHHUPA RUSTAM

CHHUPA RUSTAM

What began as a sketchy idea during one of the several chaai- discussions, at the evening time, has taken a full twist resulting into “Chhupa Rustam”.

The idea of working on sketch book came into being when we were observing that how the very act of working on sketch book, started as a part of the academic routine, at times moves even beyond it and becomes as important as any other work or activity. When we think of sketchbook, the visuals that come in front of us are either some loose sketches or a binded notebook of drawings, which shows the preliminary stages, or the whole process of an individual’s thought churning into a ‘visual’. What interested us were the ‘visual’ of this process, and the informal aspect of it.

Along with this what we were also attempting was to have a casual activity through which we can make an effort to build a strong interactive space. Through each other’s views, we wanted to give a shake to the set notions of one’s own thought process.
The group of artists here are all working with different tendencies and dealing with different concerns. As a result of which the kind of works we got are also very diverse in their visuals and treatment.

While executing this whole activity, what turned out to be encouraging was the kind of enthusiasm; each artist has shown not just towards his or her works but also in visualizing this entire activity. Your involvement and critical views will nurture us in carrying this collaborative effort further.

Chhupa Rustam is the 1st activity of our studio. We intend to carry these kinds of activities further by initiating different group of people to come and pool resources from their individual backgrounds.
